    Dr. Max Carlos Ramírez-Soto from Peru kindly invites fungal researchers working on antifungal resistance to participate in a special issue he is editing for the journal Antibiotics Journal. This special issue aims to present recent research on all aspects of antifungal resistance that threaten human health. Currently, invasive fungal diseases caused by resistant yeasts and molds (e.g., fungemia, pulmonary aspergillosis, meningitis, pneumonia) represent a significant and growing threat to public health. Therefore, research into the molecular mechanisms of antifungal resistance is essential to understand how fungi develop resistance and to identify new drugs. Clinical studies are also essential to monitor the emergence and spread of this resistance in clinical and community settings. Consequently, new research is needed on the molecular mechanisms and clinical aspects of antifungal resistance, strategies for the selective use of antifungals, and effective antifungal stewardship programs to control resistance. In this context, the main topics of interest for this special issue include, but are not limited to:

    • Mechanisms of antifungal resistance in yeasts, molds, and cryptic species;

    • Emerging antifungal-resistant species;

    • Azoles, echinocandins, polyenes, and multidrug resistance;

    • Epidemiology and surveillance of antifungal drug resistance;

    • Factors driving the emergence of antifungal resistance;

    • Preclinical and clinical research on antifungal-resistant fungal pathogens;

    • Antifungal stewardship programs;

    • New antifungal agents against pathogenic fungi.

    Dr. Max Carlos Ramírez-Soto will gladly provide more information and welcomes contact from anyone interested in submitting or discussing timelines. She can be reached at maxcrs22@gmail.com or mramirezs@usmp.pe.

    Feel free to share this opportunity with colleagues who might be interested.
