Workshop Overview

This workshop is a unique collaboration between the University of Cape Town, the University of Exeter MRC CMM, and the University of Edinburgh, funded by the Wellcome Trust and FAILSAFE. The initiative aims to expand access to advanced bioimaging tools for medical mycologists across Africa, with a special focus on fluorescence microscopy.

Whether you’re new to fluorescence microscopy or already have some experience, this workshop will provide an excellent opportunity to enhance your skills and knowledge in the context of fungal pathogens. You’ll also benefit from peer mentoring and infrastructure support through our partnership with the African Microscopy Initiative (AMI).

Key Themes Covered:

  • Fundamentals of fluorescence microscopy
  • AMR/Fungal adaptation
  • Host-pathogen interactions
  • Single-cell pathology
  • Live-cell imaging
  • Quantitative image analysis

This workshop will also offer opportunities for collaboration with your peers, insights into fungal growth and its impact on host cells, pathogen tips and tricks, and hands-on demonstrations at AMI.

We are looking forward to working with you and hope this workshop will significantly enhance your research in medical mycology and bioimaging.

Please don’t forget to complete the mandatory form below to confirm your participation.

We are looking forward to seeing you in Cape Town!
